The aircraft was completed and delivered by Field Aviation at its Field Aviation's Pearson International Airport production facility during the first week of February. Bombardier's Specialized and Amphibious Aircraft (SAA) group received the aircraft from Field Aviation and subsequently delivered it to its customer Sojitz Corporation of Japan, the prime contractor to the Japan Coast Guard.   It is the ninth such aircraft modified by Field Aviation for Bombardier for the Japan Coast Guard on a program that initially commenced in 2007.

The Q300 aircraft modified by Field Aviation each feature a functional missionized interior, large conformal observation windows and a unique air drop capability through a Field Aviation designed and certified air operable rear cargo door, a vertical drop hatch and dual A-size launcher tubes.

The surveillance suite consisting of state-of-the-art sensor technology includes 360⁰ surface search radar, a stabilized electro-optical  infrared turret and a specialized suite of mission navigation.

Field Aviation is internationally recognized for its uniquely engineered products and services, and the modification and conversion of aircraft for special mission purposes. These capabilities have made Field Aviation a world leader in the adaptation of commercial aircraft for special purpose use; ranging from flight inspection to electronic surveillance to maritime patrol and search and rescue. Special mission aircraft modified by Field Aviation are today serving Governments throughout the world providing a range of essential services.

Known for its expertise in the modification and conversion of aircraft, this latest aircraft for the Japan Coast Guard brings to nearly 40, the number of Bombardier* Classic Dash 8* aircraft that Field Aviation has modified for special mission applications. In addition to Dash 8* aircraft, Field Aviation is working with Viking Aircraft to create the Guardian 400, a multirole variant of Viking's new Twin Otter and with Boeing Defence to create a medium multi-mission aircraft based on the Bombardier* Challenger 605* platform.
